Strategy | Find Your Future Sweet Spot

Many organizations are trying to figure out how to move from where they are today to where they want to be in the future.

They’re working to redefine their company and get positioned for the next stage, whatever that might be.

If that sounds familiar, you might want to pinpoint your sweet spot from a fresh perspective.

Your sweet spot, as you know from our Sweet Spot series, is the zone where you’re able to maximize strengths and minimize weaknesses.

The process is simple, intuitive and often revelatory. To find that zone, use the three circles to define critical products, services or functions your organization:
Past - What have we done well in the past?
Present - What do we do well now?
Future - What do we want to do in the future?

The segments where the circles overlap pinpoint three viable areas of opportunity. These are areas to maximize, master or find ways to monetize.
Maximize - If there’s something your organization has done well in the past and does well in the present, you want to maximize those factors.
Master - If there's something you do well today and want to continue doing in the future, you’ll want to master that skill, knowledge and ability.
Monetize - If there's work you've done well in the past that relates to what you want to do in the future, consider finding ways to monetize that existing strength.

In other words: Where have you been? Where are you now? Where do you want to be in the future?

These are simple questions that aren't always easy to answer. Tackle this exercise alone or with a team. It’s the first essential step to discovering your future sweet spot by focusing on known, demonstrable strengths.

Once these elements are defined, you’ll be ready to tackle the next phase, which is to build a plan to make this vision real.
