Bring Out the Red, White & Blue

In the United States, Memorial Day is a time to remember and recognize those who have fought and died to keep our country free.

The official holiday is May 30, but it's celebrated on the last Monday in May. This year it falls on Monday, May 26.

The holiday was instituted in 1866 following the Civil War. Originally known as Decoration Day, many families would visit the graves of their loved ones and decorate them with flags, flowers and mementos as a sign of love, gratitude and remembrance. It became an official holiday in 1971.

This weekend, we will once again be remembering those both known and unknown who have given their lives to protect this great gift, freedom.

And to those who serve us still, please know you have my deep and sincere appreciation. Today, and every day.
