Education & Industry | Manufacturing Day is Oct 5

Friday, October 5, is Manufacturing Day in the US.

The goal is to spotlight US manufacturing and encourage manufacturers to conduct tours and demonstrations for educators, parents, students and the public.

About 175 manufacturers have signed up through the central registry at the Manufacturing Day website. Most are offering facility tours and/or presentations.

Professional associations, like the Dayton Region Manufacturers Association (DRMA), are actively encouraging members to participate, and some colleges, like Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), are offering tours of their manufacturing and engineering educational facilities.

Several states (Connecticut, Ohio, Wisconsin) have designated October as Manufacturing Month to further support and highlight the importance of manufacturing to their regional and state economies.

If you haven’t done so already, read our article STEM in Action. It describes some of the reasons why visiting a manufacturing facility is the ideal way to make meaningful connections between science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and interesting, real-world careers.
