Education & Industry | Manufacturing in Action

Mark your calendars, folks. October 5 is Manufacturing Day.

This is a nationwide event and a unique opportunity to see manufacturing in action.

The purpose is to highlight manufacturing’s vital role in national and regional economies and spotlight the wide range of high-skill, high-pay jobs available in modern manufacturing environments.

The theme is motivate, participate and educate, and the primary co-producers are the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International (FMA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).

Manufacturing Day is a great way to connect some very important dots.

Are you a manufacturer? October 5 is the ideal time to open your doors and demonstrate what you make, how you make it, and why manufacturing in general and your company in particular are so pivotal. It’s the ideal opportunity to showcase your employees, operations and products. It’s also the ideal opportunity to show the kinds of jobs available in your industry and explain the skills, knowledge, education and abilities you seek in qualified employees. Are you an educator, parent or student? This is a rare opportunity to observe the marvels of modern manufacturing, discover something new, and put teaching and learning in context by finding out more about local career opportunities and employer expectations. (Visitors info is here.)

Crossbridge has tackled many innovative projects related to manufacturing, education and the spaces where the two intersect. As a result, I've had the chance to tour a number of manufacturing and education facilities.

It's always a treat. You get to talk to people and see what they do and how they do it. Discover the complexities of the design and engineering processes. Watch operators and machinery work in tandem to transform raw material into something useful. Learn about the gear, technologies, tools, challenges and innovations.

In short, there’s nothing like a plant tour to excite interest, spark the imagination and unlock fresh appreciation for those who make the things that make the world work.

Seize the day. Make plans now to participate in this nationwide event.
